One of the first extracurricular activities that our school adopted was the traditional folk dance, or “Dabkeh”, which holds deep historical and cultural significance. This activity is aimed at the school’s students from the third to the eleventh grade, where they are trained throughout the academic year and empowered with the necessary physical, rhythmic, and musical skills to perform the dances.
The students who join the Dabkeh school take actively part in all school events, both on and off-campus, presenting artistic performances that convey messages of belonging, hope, freedom, self-confidence, and collective unity.
Every year, schools from all over the Jerusalem compete in an annual folk-dance competition, in which our school’s Dabkeh team consistently wins first place. Additionally, they present an impressive final show annually, featuring around 200 students, where they demonstrate the skills, they’ve honed throughout the year.
The Dabkeh folk dance program is led by trainer Nu’man Al-Qaq, who has been instrumental in maintaining and enhancing this cultural art form throughout the years.
